BÄRGHUIS ANNO 1930
As a Zurich building contractor, Wilhelm Halter-Ming and his wife Anna commissioned Obwalden architect Robert Omlin, to design this cosy chalet as a vacation home for his family. They were both born in Sarnen and Giswil in the canton of Obwalden.
First only used as a vacation retreat, the Bärghuis for a while became the family‘s primary location during the war.
The family lived on Central square, near Zürich‘s main station and feared to be hurt as well, in case of a bombing.
Hence, the family relocated to Rigi Kaltbad, where the children also went to the local school.
While the interior has been radically changed several times, the colorful facade in red, green, yellow and white colors has been left in its original condition and traditional old glass windows in the lobby show the Halter family crest.
The Bärghuis has a unique history and tradition, which we would like to share with you!
